State Victim Rights Amendments

Montana

• Montana does not have a victims' rights amendment to its constitution.
• However, in November of 1998, 71% of Montana voters approved a constitutional amendment broadening the purposes of the criminal justice system, to include restitution to the crime victim.

ARTICLE II, SECTION 28 – CRIMINAL JUSTICE POLICY – RIGHTS OF THE CONVICTED
(1) Laws for the punishment of crime shall be founded on the principles of prevention, reformation, public safety, and restitution for victims.
